Micro Fiction Writing Competition Round 4: Deadline extended!

*UPDATE: Round 5 has begun. Details HERE!*

Unfortunately, once again we have not received enough submissions to justify a fair competition. So ‘once again’ we are extending the submission deadline. The new deadline is Friday the 15th of May at Midnight AEST. If you can help spread the word, that would be amazing and would help to get this competition through to completion and offer the writers the healthy competition they deserve.

I understand that the $2 entry fee may put people off and whilst I’d love to keep the entry FREE, I’m not sure my bank account will thank me for it. The entry fee helps pay for the prize money, but what’s left has to come from my own pocket, which I’m more than willing to do as it’s a pleasure to hear such excitement from writers when their stories are chosen for a prize and publication. Your very helpful contribution, of a small entry fee, will help me to keep these competitions running and if we get enough from one competition, we can make the next one FREE.

Shortlist: Micro Fiction Writing Competition Round 3

*UPDATE: Round 5 has begun. Details HERE!*

Well, it’s that time again when all of our contributing writers sit on the edge of their seats waiting to see if they have been shortlisted in this round of the MLS Micro Fiction Writing Competition and I’ve kept some people waiting for an extra day, just for amusement.

Kidding! I apologize for the lateness of this announcement, I have 5 kids home all week right now (as many of you can relate), so weekends, when I’m down to just 3 teens, is about the only time I have available to post anything.

As usual, it was a tough decision but we have 10 awesome stories for our shortlist which I am about to announce. Winners will be announced once they are all contacted and we have received their bio’s and authors statements, so keep an eye on your inbox if your name is on the shortlist, because if your one of our top 3, we will be contacting you very shortly.

*EDIT: Click HERE to read the winning entries*

Once again it was a privilege to read all of the submissions but I won’t dribble on any longer because we all know why your reading this post and it isn’t to hear what I have to say, haha…and that is quite alright.

Once again we are extending the submission deadline for our micro-Fiction writing competition, due to insufficient submissions. The new deadline is the 23rd of March so you have a few more weeks to get your stories in.

Well it’s that time again when all of our contributing writers sit on the edge of their seats waiting to see if they have been shortlisted in this round of the MLS Micro Fiction Writing Competition. Once again it was a privilege to read all of the submissions and a difficult task to come up with just 10 for the shortlist. I feel nasty, overlooking good stories that may have deserved to be there as much as the others, but 10 is what we are looking for so 10 we must choose.

I won’t beat around the proverbial bush or keep you hanging on the metaphorical fence any longer, I’ll just jump straight to it! Here is our 10 shortlisted stories in alphabetical order (please note the order has no bearing on placement):

Micro Fiction Writing Competition Round 2: Deadline extended

*Please note: This competition has now ended. Please visit our competitions page for info on our current comp. Please sign up to our mailing list at the bottom of this page to keep informed of new competitions starting*

Once again we are extending the submission deadline for our micro fiction writing competition. The new deadline is the 10th of February so you have a couple more weeks to get your stories in.

Whilst the entries we have are of good quality, there just isn’t enough entries for ethical competition to take place. A lot of our stories are very similar also and centre around this idea of ‘ancient grandmothers’ either dead already or on their deathbeds. I expected this from the theme ‘Great grandmother’ but for this theme ‘Grandmother’ I’d really love to see some more stories about women in their prime, wise women, adventurous women, inspiring women.

Let’s see some stories about life lessons learned or taught, about overcoming obstacles, about chasing dreams, about mentors and matriarchs etc etc. Inspire us, motivate us, teach us!

I hope that was a good pep talk and didn’t put anyone off, haha. I’m loving all these stories but I want to see more. Get those stories in!

Shortlist: Micro Fiction Writing Competition Round 1

Micro Fiction writing competition

*UPDATE: This series has ended, another one begins soon*

Hello all.

Thank you so much to those who participated in our very first micro fiction writing competition. It was so exciting to read all the awesome stories that came in from so many talented writers. It was very hard to settle on just 10 stories for our shortlist but we did it and we are very happy to announce the list of 10 stories and their authors below.

I know I said that we would be announcing the shortlist and the winners at the same time, but due to life circumstances, we need a little more time to organise all the details that go with that, but do not worry, we will not keep you on the edge of your seats for too long and will have the winners announced within the next few days. If your story appears in the shortlist you will receive an email from us soon as well.
